Pomegranate Raita/Madhulai Thayir Pachadi

I learned this recipe from an aunt of mine and found that this goes very well with sambhar sadham/bisibelabath. You can also serve it with pulavs or rotis.After trying it at home, it has become my husband’s favorite.It is very simple to make. The sweet taste of pomegranate along with the crunchy onions gives an unique taste. Try it and you will love it.

Pomegranate Raita/Madhulai Thayir Pachadi

Ingredients:

2 cups of pomegranate seeds

1 cup of finely chopped onions

2 cups of fresh thick curd

Salt as required

For tempering:

1 tsp mustard seeds

1 tsp urad dhal

For garnishing:

finely chopped coriander leaves

Method:

  1. Mix the pomegranate seeds and chopped onions into the curd.Add required salt and mix.
  2. Temper with mustard seeds and urad dhal.
  3. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve.

    Whenever I select pomegranate its too sour, how to select a sweet one?
    Do we suck the juice of seed and spit seed out or do we eat whole seed? Whenever I eat whole seed it is hard, fibrous and sometimes a challenge to chew.

      Radha, I just select firm red ones, they turn out to be good, I dont know any special technique for that..
      Normally we at home eat it along with the seed. When I make juice,I strain the seeds.
